Did you know you that we pay our current drivers to help recruit new drivers? Heck yes we do! In 2014, Prime paid over $300,000 in referral bonuses to our fleet! That doesn’t even include the truck payments that drivers qualified for through this program either.
Why do we have this program?
As you already know, you are the face of Prime. You are out there getting the job done, day in and day out, crisscrossing the country to haul what America needs. You are the best people to help find good drivers to join our fleet. You know why Prime is a good company and what it takes to be a successful operator out on the road. Plus, we think if you spend your time answering potential driver’s questions, then you should see some reward for that time!
What do you get for referring new drivers?
Refer a lead seat or non-lead seat driver (Someone with a CDL):
- Receive $250 after your referral hauls their first dispatched load.
- Receive a mileage incentive (based on experience classifications).
- For each driver that you refer that drives for Prime for 90 days, you will receive a “credit”.
- 3 truck credits qualify independent contractors for one week of truck payments applied to current lease. Company drivers earn $350.
- 10-19 truck credits qualify independent contractors for a full quarter of truck payments applied to current lease. Company drivers receive $350 per week for 13 weeks.
- 20+ truck credits qualify independent contractors for the use of the “Ambassador” truck for one year. (75% of the new associates that you receive a referral credit from must qualify as a solo or lead seat driver when they start.) Company drivers receive $350 per week for one year.
Refer a student driver (Someone without a CDL):
- Pays $200 to start.
- After student advances to Lead Seat-A position, the referring person will get 1 cent per mile for the first 6 months and then 1/4 cent per mile as long as both the referring person and referral are still active drivers at Prime.
How do I qualify as the “referring driver”?
It’s pretty simple. Just make sure that the person you are referring puts your name, truck number, or driver code on their application. They can also let their Recruiter know on their first phone call with Prime if they accidentally left your info off their app. We have to be notified that you referred the driver BEFORE they get to Orientation. Trust us…we know that there are some people who try to find a new driver at Orientation and claim they referred them. Yeah that won’t work. 🙂
What are some good tips for referring drivers?
- Talk about Prime’s true Open Door Policy
- Invite prospects to visit Prime’s terminals in Springfield, MO, Pittston, PA, or Salt Lake City, UT
- Show prospects your settlements and your results
- Explain compensation model:
- Refrigerated and Flatbed drivers: Contractor receives 72% of revenue, Prime 28%
- Tanker drivers: Contractor receives 71% of revenue, Prime 29%
- Give your business card to prospects so all proper credit is applied to your account
- Talk about Prime’s unique Retention & Rewards Program and the fact that it is 100% company funded
- Opportunity to succeed based on you — not others
- Partner with a Prime Recruiter so you can let them know when you are sending a potential applicant their way and they can be sure you get the referral credit
How do I take advantage of my earned truck payments?
Once you have 3 active drivers here for 90 days, you can send an email to kpinckney@driveforprime.com. She will check to make sure your 3 drivers are still active and then notify Matt Rachel in Orientation to apply your truck payment that week for you.
Program Rules:
A. All active Prime Driver Associates (A, B1, B2, and C Seats) are eligible to receive pay. The referrer and the referee (recruit) must both be active drivers running under Prime’s Authority as either a company driver employee in a Prime-owned truck or an independent contractor who is leasing a truck from Success Leasing. (Drivers with ACE lease or lease purchase trucks do not qualify.)
B. In order for you to be eligible for a free truck for one year, or for one calendar quarter of payments applied to your current lease, 75% of the new associates that you receive a referral credit from must qualify as a solo or lead seat driver when they start.
C. Credits will be earned once referred associate has been active at Prime, Inc. for 90 days.
D. To receive referral credit, it is important that you are identified to Prime’s Recruiting Department as the person responsible for each referral prior to the new associate arriving in Springfield, MO for New Associate Orientation. New recruit will determine who receives referral credit in cases of multiple referrals. Credit will be determined by information given by recruit from initial contact with recruiter.
E. Qualification date of new associate must fall within the time restraints of the contest.
F. Prime’s obligations to this program ceases when the referring or referred party are no longer active drivers at Prime, Inc.
G. Winning associates are responsible for applicable taxes.
H. The person being referred must run under Prime’s operating authority, as a company driver employee or be an independent contractor who is leasing a truck from Success Leasing.
