For the second year, professional truck drivers will compete for the title “Fittest of the Fleet” during Prime, Inc.’s annual company picnic on August 30, 2014 in Springfield, MO. This event is a lot of fun… check out our blog to learn more!
Prime’s Driver Health and Fitness Director Siphiwe Baleka created the competition to further transform the commercial truck driving industry by creating a culture of fitness within it. Because we feel strongly about promoting healthy living for truck drivers, we believe this is an enjoyable way to raise awareness and bring participants and their families together for a fun afternoon.
During the competition, each driver will compete in timed events testing their strength speed, endurance, agility, and athleticism. There will be separate male and female divisions. Some events may incorporate various pieces of equipment (i.e. kettle bell, sand bag, jump rope, etc.). But no worries–there will be no heavy lifting above 100 lbs. for men and 40 lbs. for women.
Events may also include various bodyweight exercises (push-ups, burpees, jumping jacks, squats) and involve the truck (entering and exiting form the driver’s seat, lowering/raising the landing gear, opening/closing trailer doors, climbing in/out of trailer, etc.). This year’s competition will feature two new pieces of fitness equipment that Prime will showcase as creative and novel ways to exercise while on the road. You must attend the competition to see what they are!
In 2013’s competition, our first and second place finishers were featured in Men’s Health Magazine. We invited other fleets to participate this year, and each year we will be crowning the “Fittest Truck Driver in America.” Take a look at the Fittest of Fleet Competition video from last year:
