John Callahan honored as Prime Inc. top CDL instructor
14 drivers recognized at annual Instructor of the Year banquet
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – April 25, 2014 – Prime Inc. recently recognized John Callahan as the top CDL instructor at the company’s annual Instructor of the Year banquet.
The company’s CDL instructors, which are responsible for helping train new students with no commercial driving experience as they earn their Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), are paired up with the aspiring drivers for their initial three to four weeks of training. Last year, more than 1,000 student drivers that participated in Prime’s Student Driver (PSD) program obtained their CDL.
The awards, which were presented to 14 instructors, are issued based on the number of students trained that are still with the company, the cumulative test scores for each of the three required tests: pretrip, backing and driving, and how many student drivers have had first time passes – a “trifecta.”
Callahan, who has been with the company’s Flatbed Division since 2009, has served as an instructor for three and a half years. During this time he has helped more than 50 PSD’s obtain their CDL. “The reason I like being a CDL instructor is because I like helping people,” said Callahan. “I like helping people get to where they want to be in life, and I’m able to do that through Prime’s Student Driver program. I also enjoy getting to meet new people. I’ve met some of my best friends through this program.”
“John takes extreme pride in preparing his students to be successful out on the road,” said Callahan’s Fleet Manager Zack Teisher. “He and the other honorees exemplify what we look for in our instructors. They each work hard to make a difference in the lives of each person they come into contact with.”
Rounding out the top three award recipients along with Callahan are Sean Finnessey, a Refrigerated Division driver since 2011, and John Lewis, a Refrigerated Division driver since 2002. Additional honorees include: Anthony Bessette, John Carrigan, Scott Dahlstrom, Chris Ewing, James Fuller, Danny Gibbons, Barry Hoofnagle, Justin Humiston, Keith Luce, Eric Semelroth, and Ricardo Torres.
