After battling with blizzards and breakdowns, I finally managed to get home but not without the help of a fantastic group of people. Rollie, my Fleet Manager, and his network of sales and planners all pulled off a very difficult logistics plan to get me home. In this day of me-me-me selfish people, I especially wish we could spotlight the driver who was tasked with re-powering my load. This was not an enviable task; there was no glory and little financial reward with 2 difficult drops. I personally would have been very unhappy to have been selected to re-power this load. I was very surprised by the driver that showed up because he arrived with a smile and a great attitude. I thanked him for saving me, and he told me that all he knew was that a driver was in trouble and needed to get home and he was there to help. I think we could all take a lesson from this driver. Devonte of truck number 650631 has inspired me and is a true highway hero with a shining positive attitude that we should all aspire to achieve. Truly, this guy sets the standard, and his attitude was awesome! Thanks, Karl Wiggins
A little bit about Devonte Taylor:
Devonte came to Prime in January of 2009 and hauls freight for us in our refrigerated division. Devonte is the type of guy you can find around the terminal always smiling and making others laugh. He is willing to do whatever is needed to get the job done, and he will tell you it’s all about teamwork to him.
What you might not know from meeting Devonte is that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in early 2014. He didn’t let that diagnosis get him down. He took the steps needed to get his health in check and has been in remission since August of last year. According to him, he feels better than ever and the inside of his truck kind of looks a lot like a GNC store. He said he wants others to hear his story so that maybe one person can take it to heart, get checked for prostate cancer, and maybe save their life. You can learn more about prostate cancer here: http://www.cancer.org/cancer/prostatecancer/
“From working with Devonte when joining Prime’s family in 2009, to helping him return from a medical leave of absence in 2015, I have been blessed to build a life-long friendship over the past six years. Devonte encompasses Prime’s Policy: do your best, do what’s right and treat others the way you want to be treated. Devonte is a great person, inside and out.”-Kristi Pinckney, Recruiting Department
Devonte is also the proud father of TWINS coming this May and is looking forward to their arrival.
Thank you Devonte for being such a positive example of what the Prime Family is all about!
