Orientation & Hotel Information

Prime provides hotel accommodations and 3 meals per day during your orientation process.

Springfield, MO

Check-in: Room will be available after 6 am the day before your orientation. Orientation starts at 8:00 am. The Orientation Office and Classrooms are located in this hotel.

    • Note: It is possible that you may be placed at another hotel property if the Campus Inn becomes full.  All hotel arrangements are handled by the Campus Inn front desk team during the check-in process.

Shuttle: The Prime Shuttle is available to anyone traveling to orientation (please confirm with your Recruiter). The Prime Shuttles run from 6 am to 12 am 7 days a week. For pick up, call the Prime Shuttle at (417)766-4503.

Check-in: Room will be available after noon the day before your orientation. Orientation starts at 8:00 am. Catch the shuttle from the hotel to the terminal at 7:30 am. Meet in the lobby of the motel.

Check-in: Room will be available after 3 pm the day before your orientation. Orientation starts at 8:00 am. Meet in the hotel lobby at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am shuttle departure from the hotel to the orientation facility.

Shuttle: The Holiday Inn Express Shuttle operates from 6 am to 7 pm Monday-Friday. Please utilize this option to get from hotel to orientation. 

If needed, the Prime Inc. Shuttle operates 7 days a week from 7 am-7 pm (after hours for emergencies only). Contact # for Prime Shuttle is 570-212-2774.

Seat Classification

Seat classification is subject to change during orientation process upon review.

A Seat

You will be eligible to upgrade into a truck after completion of orientation.

B1 Seat

You will be required to obtain a minimum 20,000 team miles with a Prime Trainer.

  • During this training period, you will be paid a guaranteed minimum of $900 per week. You must be available for dispatch to receive this amount.
  • Once the minimum mileage goal is met, the trainee will become eligible for review for upgrade. Drivers will be selected for upgrade based on factors including equipment availability, service, safety, and performance.

B2 Seat

You will be required to obtain a minimum 50,000 team miles with a Prime Trainer.

  • You will be paid a guaranteed minimum of $900/week as long as you are available for dispatch.
  • Once the minimum mileage goal is met, the trainee will become eligible for review for upgrade. Drivers will be selected for upgrade based on factors including equipment availability, service, safety, and performance.

C Seat

You will be required to obtain a minimum 60,000 team miles with a Prime Trainer.

  • During the first 30 days of training, you will be paid a guaranteed minimum of $800/week as long as you are available for dispatch.
  • After the first 30 days, you will be paid a guaranteed minimum of $900/week as long as you are available for dispatch.
  • Once the minimum mileage goal is met, the trainee will become eligible for review for upgrade. Drivers will be selected for upgrade based on factors including equipment availability, service, safety, and performance.

D Seat

You will be required to obtain a minimum of 50,000 team miles with a Prime Trainer after obtaining your Class A CDL.

  • Sign an agreement to drive for Prime for one year in orientation (unless coming in with your CDL).
    • As long as you drive for Prime for one year, you pay nothing to Prime Inc. for the training program.
  • Go out on the road for 2 to 4 weeks with a CDL Instructor to help you develop the skills needed to pass the CDL Exam.
    • During this time, you will not be paid by Prime. You will be able to take an interest-free loan of up to $200 per week. This money is intended for meals only (not to send home to pay bills).
    • Once you become a company driver after obtaining your CDL, we will deduct $25 per week until you have paid back the borrowed amount.
  • Return to Prime to take the Class A CDL Exam which will test you on your driving, backing, and inspection skills.
  • After passing CDL Exam, you will be required to obtain a minimum 50,000 team miles with a Prime Trainer.
    • You will be paid $900/week guarantee as long as you are available for dispatch.
  • Once you obtain 50,000 training miles, you will be eligible for solo driver upgrade review.
    Upgrading into your own truck is based on safety, service, and truck availability.

Documents to Bring

Long Form Physical and Medical Card

You must bring both your long form physical paperwork and medical certificate to be compliant to drive. If you have any questions about this, contact your Recruiter to ensure you have the right documents.

Original, Certified State-Issued Birth Certificate

  • Must be non-laminated
  • Must be a full-size birth certificate (hospital, wallet-size, or photo copies will NOT be accepted)
  • If you don’t have your birth certificate, a new one can be ordered online at http://www.vitalchek.com
  • If you are unable to obtain your birth certificate, these are acceptable alternative documents:
    • Original and Valid U.S. Passport
    • INS Paperwork with proper work authorization–must be compliant for Passport eligibility to travel outside the U.S.
    • Original Naturalization Paperwork accompanied by non-laminated Social Security Card

Valid Driver's License with Photo

  • Must be from current state of residence
  • If you have a Class A CDL, your license must:
    • Have Tanker endorsement
    • Be medically certified
    • Be non-excepted interstate

Voided Check or Bank Documents with Account & Routing Info

Bring these documents if you would like to sign up for direct deposit during orientation process.

Note: Your name on all documents must match exactly. If they do not, please bring proof of name change document such as an original marriage license or certified court-issued legal name change document. If you have had more than one legal name change for any reason, you will have to show each certified name change document.If you have any questions on documents, contact your Recruiter.

Orientation Process

Preliminary driving skills evaluation

If you are a Class A CDL holder and a Seat Class A, B1, B2, or C, you will take a skills evaluation in order for Prime to ensure your skill level.

File Review

You will be required to complete a hand-written application and paperwork when you arrive, and you will meet with a member of our orientation team for a face-to-face file review.

Criminal Background Check

If you discover any missing information from your application, contact your Recruiter immediately. These details must be discussed, reviewed, and approved prior to Orientation.

Employment & Education Verification

All part and full-time jobs and schooling in the last 3 years must be verified.

If you are currently driving for another trucking company, you must turn your truck into that company’s required location before coming to Prime.

Virtual & Classroom Training

Training includes and not limited to the following: hazmat handling, electronic logs, cargo claim prevention, safety, etc.

DOT Physical and Drug Screen

All applicants are required to pass a DOT physical and drug test (even if you have a current DOT card).

Some basic medical requirements are:

  • Blood Pressure Levels: 140/90 or lower
  • Eye Sight: 20/40 or better in each eye (with corrective lenses if needed)
  • Hearing: Must be able to hear a forced whisper at 6 feet
  • Diabetic: Sugar levels must be well controlled with an A1c level of 10 or less. If you are on insulin, you will need form MCSA-5870 which can be found on the FMCSA website.
  • Heart Related Issues: You will need cardiology clearance and possibly recent stress test or echocardiogram results.

  • If previously diagnosed with Sleep Apnea:
    • You must be at least 70% compliant for the last 30 days on a CPAP machine to comply with Prime’s requirements.
    • You must submit your usage report to Cardinal Sleep for review and approval prior to attending orientation.

Apply for TWIC Card

All Prime Drivers will apply for TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) Card.

  • TWIC card application fee is $125.25 and is taken out in two payments of $62.63 as payroll deductions.

Note: All Class A CDL holders must have the tanker endorsement on their CDL prior to attending orientation. This is required for all divisions (refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, and intermodal).

What to Pack

Clothing

  • Bring enough clothing for approximately 7 days on the road. Pack for both warm and cool weather.
  • Laundry rooms available onsite in hotel and terminal.

Bedding

  • Sleeping bag or blanket and a pillow
  • You will be provided bedding and towels at the hotel facilities, but you will want bedding for when you get into a truck.

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste

Note: Space is limited on the truck so please limit your packing to 1 or 2 soft sided bags. Greyhound allows for 1 checked bag and 1 carry on bag (no more than 25 lbs) for free.

Note: There is a strict no weapons/firearms policy at our facilities.

Note: There is a Walmart (open 6 am-midnight daily) within walking distance of the Springfield Orientation Facility if you would like to purchase items once you arrive instead of bringing everything with you on the bus.

Flatbed & Tanker Boot Camp (For experienced drivers only-check with your recruiter)

Flatbed Boot Camp

  • Flatbed Boot Camp starts at 8:30 am on Thursday and ends Friday afternoon.
    • Class is held in C3 at the Campus Inn in Springfield, MO.
    • Prime covers the cost of your room and meals during the class time instruction.
    • You will be paid $133 per day if you pass your securement tests and successfully complete the class.
  • Receive classroom and hands-on training
    • Learn how to properly secure different types of flatbed freight with chains, straps, and tarps.
    • This is a physically demanding class.
  • Prove that you have mastered the securement skills.
    • You must show that you understand and are proficient with the securement regulations and be able to demonstrate the proper techniques to secure cargo.

Tanker Boot Camp

  • Tanker Boot Camp takes place on Thursday and Friday following your Orientation.
    • Report to the Tanker Department (2nd floor of the Z Building) at 7:30 am on Thursday.
    • Class is held in L2A (2nd Floor of Z Building) in Springfield, MO and led by Jeff Bruton.
    • Prime covers the cost of your room and meals during the class time instruction.
  • Bring the following items: steel toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, and safety vest.
    • These items are available for purchase in the onsite company store at Prime.
  • Receive hands-on training
    • You will learn about all aspects of the Prime food grade and inedible tank and the industry including the following: types of washes, loading and unloading procedures, how to break down and rebuild our pumps, and the different types of fittings we use.
    • You will get hands-on pumping experience with one of our tankers and pumps into a stationary on-site storage tank, in a repetitive nature to help teach the unloading procedures.
  • Prove that you are ready to haul tanker
    • You will be required to pass a short test on what you have learned at boot camp to show that you understand and are proficient with the tanker regulations, techniques, and safety.
    • You will watch a video that covers Prime tanks, pumps, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines which you will be required to pass a test on as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be provided meals or lodging?

During the orientation process, Prime will provide you with 3 meals per day as well as hotel accommodations. All orientation attendees may share a room with up to 1 additional Prime Driver. 

Does Prime provide transportation?

Your Recruiter can purchase a bus ticket for travel to orientation. If you travel to orientation on your own, speak with your Recruiter about travel reimbursement.

What divisions are available at Prime?

We have 4 divisions at Prime: refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, and intermodal. If you have any questions on division options, please reach out to your Recruiter to discuss what is available in your area prior to orientation.

What does Prime pay?

Prime increased company driver pay rates in August of 2022!

Starting solo company driver rates:
• .50 cpm refrigerated in a full-size truck
• .55 cpm refrigerated in a lightweight truck
• .52 cpm flatbed
• .57 cpm tanker

Starting team company driver rates:
• .69 cpm split refrigerated
• .67 cpm split flatbed
• .70 CPM split tanker
• Team incentive:

  • Earn .26 cpm bonus split for miles between 3,000-3,999 per week
  • Earn .31 cpm bonus split for miles over 4,000 per week

Independent Contractor rates:
• Earn 72% of the linehaul as a contractor in the refrigerated or flatbed division.
• Earn 71% of the linehaul as a contractor in the tanker division.

What types of trucks does Prime have?

We carry Freightliner, Peterbilt, and International truck models at Prime Inc. Truck models are all 2019 or newer and have automatic transmissions.
