This is the third post in a series of blogs that discusses the 13 driving principles that drive Prime Inc. to be the best carrier in the industry. The third driving principle is Environment.
“We value our limited resources with upmost care,” states Prime Inc. Fleet Maintenance Administrator Nick Forte. “We understand that we all must be good stewards in order to protect our children and grandchildren’s future, while providing safe on-time service to our customers. Environment is no longer an afterthought; it is the forefront of what Prime Inc. does as an industry leader.”
Currently, Prime Inc. is utilizingseveral green solutions with the goal of maintaining a green fleet. These solutions include the following:
- Eco side skirts reduce drag on the tractor and make it more aerodynamic, decreasing fuel consumption in the process. These side skirts are placed on the trailer, save 6% on fuel consumption, and are designed and manufactured on site at Prime.
- TrailerTails on the rear of Prime Inc. refrigerated trailers reduce drag and deliver 3% better fuel economy.
- SmartWay wide-base tires replace traditional tires for improved fuel efficiency and lighter truck weight.
- SmartWay-approved tractors are the only type of tractors Prime Inc. orders for all OEMs.
- Equipment weight reductions reduce strain on the engine and help get more from each tank of fuel.
- Low-viscosity synthetic lubricants keep moving parts lubricated and running smoothly while improving fuel efficiency by 3 percent compared to conventional mineral oil lubricants.
- Semi-synthetic engine oils with lighter weight are used fleet-wide.
- IntelliSet controls are used on reefers to manage temperature and airflow inside the trailer, assuring maximum product quality and optimizing fuel efficiency.
- SolarGuard roofs reduce thermal demand and decrease fuel consumption.
These green initiatives are the driving principles behind Prime Inc.’s environmental goals. They are already making a big difference in the way drivers and shippers do business with Prime.
