Randee Lewis is a trainer with Prime, Inc. When he started driving for Prime, he went through the Prime Student Driver (PSD) program, a CDL training program designed specifically for drivers just starting out with Prime. After being on the road for a while, he decided to become a trainer and has now helped six other drivers earn their CDLs through the program.
To learn a little bit more about the man who is now teaching others to drive, Randee answers questions about his background and his time in the CDL Training program. Here’s what he had to say:
Q: How long have you been driving professionally?
A: Three years, two-and-a-half of those with Prime.
Q: What did you do before you started driving for Prime?
A: I was an electrician apprentice.
Q: You said you’ve been driving with Prime Inc. for two-and-a-half years? Who did you drive for the rest of the time?
A: I left Prime after about a year to go drive locally for another company. It didn’t work out at all. They didn’t give me enough hours, plus I had to get up at 3:30 a.m. every morning. So, I came back to Prime.
Q: Why did you come back?
A: I liked the family setting and the really nice equipment. Plus, they have really nice terminals.
Q: Do you have an area you normally run?
A: I run all over the U.S.
Q: What sets Prime Inc. apart from the other companies you’ve worked for?
A: I like that they have an open door policy and that I can talk to anyone. They have really nice tractors and trailers, and on top of that, they treat me really well.
Q: Tell us about your family.
A: I live in Texas. I’m married, and we have three sons. It’s great, and they really miss me a lot. They love to get in my truck when I come home.
Q: What do you do in your off time?
A: I like to play basketball and work out. We also like going to the movies and going sightseeing.
Q: Would you recommend Prime Inc. to another professional driver?
A: I always recommend people to Prime because I think it’s a great company. They have the best CDL training program around. You really learn before you get your own truck, and that makes you a better and safer driver on the road.
