Bendix Demonstrates Advanced Active Safety Technologies To Prime Inc.

1Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC and Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC will be offering a demonstration of the newest innovations in advanced commercial vehicle active safety technologies to Prime Inc., continuing its efforts to educate the commercial vehicle industry about the value and importance of safety advances.

The May 19th event is taking place at the Springfield-Branson National Airport, in Springfield, MO, the headquarters of Prime Inc., one of the nation’s largest trucking companies. This event is open to interested individuals who would like to view this safety technology between 1 pm and 4 pm.

Bendix, a North American leader in active safety and brake system technology, demonstrated how its innovations help improve highway safety by mitigating rollovers and loss of control, helping to prevent rear-end collisions, monitoring tire pressure and temperature, and reducing stopping distance.

Through ride-and-drive demonstrations, presentations by Bendix experts, and an in-hangar display showcasing the latest technologies, participants will witness the effectiveness of the company’s innovative safety products: Bendix® ESP® Electronic Stability Program; Bendix® Wingman® ACB – Active Cruise with Braking; SmarTireby Bendix tire pressure monitoring system; and Bendix® air disc brakes.

Prime’s acquisition of over 4000 new trailers this summer will include the Bendix disk brakes and advanced trailer roll stability system. Prime currently specs other Bendix safety products as well, including the Bendix® ESP® Electronic Stability Program full-stability system and Bendix® Wingman® Advanced – A Collision Mitigation Technology, on its Peterbilt®, Kenworth®, and International® Class 8 tractors. In addition, Prime provides AutoVue® Lane Departure Warning (LDW) System from Bendix CVS on all its tractors, which number more than 5,000.

“Our commitment to safety – one of Prime’s core principles – was a key factor in our choice of Bendix technologies,” said Paul Higgins, director of maintenance for Prime Inc. “Bendix shares that corporate philosophy, and we’re pleased to count them as a valued partner in the critical work of helping to make our fleet and the highways safer.”

The ride-and-drive demonstration at the Prime Inc. event highlights Bendix ESP and Bendix Wingman ACB. Bendix ESP is a full-stability system that helps drivers mitigate rollover and loss-of-control situations on dry, wet, and snow- and ice-covered roadways. Unlike roll-only systems, full-stability systems are more comprehensive, addressing both roll and directional stability. The technology recognizes and mitigates conditions that could lead to rollover and loss-of-control situations sooner on dry surfaces and in a wider range of driving and road conditions.

The Bendix Wingman ACB – Active Cruise with Braking system is designed to help drivers avoid rear-end collisions by delivering always-on proactive alerts and active interventions, when in cruise control, to help the driver maintain a safe following distance behind a forward vehicle. In addition, the Bendix Wingman ACB system provides stationary object alerts, giving drivers up to a three-second warning of a metallic object, such as a stalled car, blocking their lane of travel.

All Bendix® ADB 22X air disc brakes exceed the newly mandated reduced stopping distance regulations. Bendix air disc brakes are proven to significantly reduce stopping distances for commercial vehicles; virtually eliminate brake fade with no degradation of stopping power; enable a passenger car-like feel; and permit straight, stable stops while delivering increased brake life and reducing maintenance costs. Bendix brand air disc brakes are compatible in a variety of combinations with North American tractor and trailer air drum foundation brakes. Bendix® foundation drum brakes, disc brakes, automatic slack adjusters, and combination spring brakes are produced and made available by Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC under the Bendix® brand name.
