Air Brake Check Verbiage-CDL Exam

Good afternoon,  I am hearing that we are still having instructor’s and PSD’s who aren’t aware of the new requirements for brake stabilization stage 1 of the airbrake check. Below are precise instructions on how the PSD will need to perform and present the verbiage for stage 1 of the Air Brake Check.

After the 5 mph roll stop, they will shut the truck off, turn the ignition switch back on to supply power to the gauges (truck is in gear).  At this point they will tell the examiner, “ I will make sure my gauges have stabilized”.  After this has been done, they will then fully depress the brake pedal, wait for the gauges to stabilize, then tell the examiner, “I am checking to make sure my brakes have stabilized and now I will apply full pressure to my brake pedal for one minute, making sure that I don’t lose more than 4 PSI, will you please time me?”.

If you have questions, please send them to PSD@primeinc.com.

Thanks for all you do!
